HOT STUFF

Daedren asked about boiling water, "Do ya think if you were sneaky about it and peered at it in a mirror so it wouldn't know, would it boil?" Lux says it might melt if it got hot enough.

One of Our Own

Medicine Vincent gave residents some information on his battle with Crohn's Colitus and asked for good wishes as he spends time in hospital  getting tests done.

Crohn's Colitus with Perio-renal is a cronic imunalogical disorder that manafests itself within the gastro-intestinal track. It is also systemic and causes problems throughout the imune system and related systems.

Book Review

Draco18s discussed 'The Dragon DelaSangre' by Alan F. Troop. The following is an
Booksexcert from Amazon:

Peter DelaSangre lives in seclusion with his father on an island off the coast of Florida. They have good reason for their isolation: Peter and his father are dragons. Capable of taking human form, they have built a successful business in Florida, run by humans they control but don't trust. Peter and his father feed on humans, but do so stealthily, so as not to draw attention to themselves. But when Peter brings a young woman named Maria to the island in secret and kills her to avoid having her discover that he is a dragon, he draws the suspicion of her brother, Jorge. Peter is distracted, however, by his father's death and the scent of a female dragon who possibly could become his mate.

DRAGON WARS

NEWS!!! Lord Nargus StreamWarrior brought to the attention of residents 'The Dragon Wars' movie. He found it really interesting, funny and strange, really strange. A synopsis from Creature Corner says, "Combining element’s of fantasy and sci-fi, 'Dragon Wars' focuses on Imoogi, a giant snake from actual Korean folklore. Part of the movie takes place about 500 years ago in Korea as a race of dragon worshipping aliens called Atroxes seek to capture and control the legendary Imoogi and are terrorizing the local peasants in the process." Lord Nargus continued, "Seems there are dragons of good fighting with those of evil." The Editor looks forward to seeing it.

EDITORIAL

Hex commented that humankind calls dragons bloodthirsty and evil. Yet he feels mankind has poor track record when warmongering comes along. "War is nothing but death and misery. Dragons at least know how keep the peace." Other opinions disagreed, mostly centering around the small size of the sample population resident in Alfandra.

AFD Webring Spotlight

In a continuation of last issue's Spotlight, I asked Eredien: What made you  choose to be a carestaffer?

Eredien: It seemed like something AFD needed at the time, and still does now. I was at a point in my life where I'd started to work through some of the things I'd been going through and wanted to give the same help I recieved back to someone. Breimh-dad was being overwhelmed and needed to help spread out the people who were coming to him for help.

Modern Art

Amethyst wondered what kind of paint she could use on her keyboard. Hex said invisible purple paint would work best but is difficult to obtain because, after all, it is invisible.

MoneyCrime Report

Alfandra's very own Lord Flame Stryke denied owning a gold bar while hiding his title deed behind his back. He told the officer in charge that he ran "it for a friend". He was later seen sneaking away. Sentinel was skeptical.

The Basics of AFD

Trerro: Why are the non-fruits referred to as nuts?

Eredien: Well, we have to call you all something. And it's a kinder, gentler term than "newbies" is, at least in the way that "newbie" is used in many other internet groups, where it's practically an insult. One alternative explanation: Fruits are soft, mushy, round and easy to throw. Nuts are hard, brittle, round, and you wouldn't want to pelt them at anyone. Polar opposites. But that's just a theory. Really, the joke is so old that no one knows. I came to AFD in the fall of 1997, and it was already a well-entrenched tradition by then.

ChalkboardA Class with Rai

Clampy: If milli, and centi are suffixes for 'millionth of' and 'hundredth of', then why are millipedes and centipedes called that?

Rai: "Mill-" as a normal prefix, rather than SI notation, means thousands as
well as thousandths. Ditto "cent" for hundreds -- witness the words millennium and century. "Micro-" is the metric prefix for millionths of something.

Calmpy: Wouldn't they be more accurately named if they were 'kilopedes' and 'hectopedes'?

Rai: Nope, because they don't always have that number of legs. Standard language prefixes are okay with inaccuracy, but metric is not. Centipedes can have as few as 18 legs, and no millipede has a thousand. I believe about 700 is the record).
